The Derby - Epsom - June 6th 2009

June 6th 2009 - the 65th anniversary of D-Day, should have been a day on the Normandy beaches remembering.. and they were much in my mind this morning - However this afternoon it was the Derby at Epsom racecourse.. and Tom was up for his annual jolly boys outing. He is in the middle of his GCSEs at the moment and our calendar is full of important dates for all sorts of exams.. However in the largest writing the Derby has been penned in in permanent ink for quite some time. Sadly not the sunny weather of last year.. or even last week.. but at least it stopped raining as we approached Tattenham Corner -

The photographs are not in order.. we start with the Derby..... and just look how broad the grin is when we reached the start -

They're under Starters Orders . . . . . . .

and they're off . . . . .

and off they went up the hill.. we began the long walk back.. but the next race would get back before we did!!! Sea the Stars was the winner of a good race apparantly. . .

On the way back to the start the horses came out for the sixth race.. One of them appeared to take the wrong route to the start.. and as we passed the bookies two minutes later I decided to part with £2 of my hard earned cash on the lost nag... well Coin of the Realm Thank you ... you paid for our day and cheered me up no end!!

This is Coin of the Realm winning, from our view on Tattenham Hill

and then we go backwards in time to the starts of the second and third races...

and that was the end of a lovely day out - Thanks Tom for taking me, I had a fabby day
