We finally reached Reykjavik on Thursday afternoon, and found it a very strange city. It was incredibly quiet (Population of just 178,000 may have something to do with that) and there was a lot of rennovation going on, which made taing photographs very tricky. This statue of the Viking Ship o the shoreline, was hoever wonderful, possibly my favourite thing in Reykjavik.
This photograph of the Hallgrimskirka (yes completely covered in scaffolding) is very unremarkable, and ordinarily would not be in here, apart from two things. Firstly, there are few things to photograph in Reykjavik and secondly as I took this photograph the ground was literally moving under my feet. Iceland suffered an earthquake which registered 6.7 on the Richter scale, with the epicentre just 20 miles away. Luckily no-one was killed, and we merely had a 'moment'.
As you can see, there was little point taking photos of the Hallgrimskirka from outside, which was a real pity as it looks wonderful in the pictures I have seen. This is the view inside the church.
and eight floors up (by lift I hasten to add) the bell tower. . .

and would you believe it, the church clock? Inside out ... can you guess what time we got there?
and the view of the pretty side of Reykjavic from the bell tower.
and a view of the Perlan, a revolving restaurant on the outskirts of Reykjavic. Unfortunately when we were there there it did not revolve. In fact if it had revolved at least there would have been an explanation for why I fell over carrying 4 full to the brim glasses of coke and lemonade, which promptly flung themselves over almost every part of my body. I am still finding sticky patches!
