My last childhood memory of visiting Chester Zoo is in 1977 when thir first baby elephant was born in captivity. 1977 being a faily auspicious year, the baby calf was called Jubilee. We went to see him frequently, as both a family and with school and Brownie trips. I was a bit sad to find that Jubilee had died a few years back, but that elephant breeding at Chester Zoo has gone from strength to strength, as you can see from these pictures!
